Community Connections Performance Expectations
At Community Connections student project work is the evidence that a student has worked toward acquiring the skills and content knowledge in a particular subject area, met the State Standards, and satisfied both the advisor and the student that authentic learning has taken place. The Performance Expectations are a guide to use to discern how to award credit for student projects, as well as a guide to planning for student progress overall toward graduation.
In order to achieve credit for a subject area, student work must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrate progress in at least three of the skills listed for that subject
- Incorporate at least three of the content areas, or big ideas (either those listed, or those mutually agreed upon by the student and advisor)
- Be the equivalent of at least 120 hours of work
There will be overlap of the criteria for subject credit, but keep in mind the following guidelines:
- If project work does not touch on a certain skill or big idea/content area, then the advisor must help a student find alternative methods of acquiring enough familiarity with them to demonstrate authentic learning.
- A credit might require more than one project in order to meet the criteria
- A student must demonstrate mastery of all of the skills for each subject before graduation
- The Performance Expectations should be used not only as a guide to individual projects, but also with the four year graduation plan in mind.
